Abstract
Oral history interview with Jay Butterfield, class of 1959. Butterfield describes his early childhood and adolescence in New Mexico. He discusses his time at Dartmouth and details his decision to drop out and join the military. He relates his experiences during his first tour and assignment to the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV). He discusses his second tour as an Aviation Commander, outlines his domestic posts, and explores his involvement in military doctrinal discussions abroad. Butterfield concludes the interview by discussing his retirement.
